I can safely say "one of the coolest rides I've ever been on" & at the same time, "OMG that sucked! ".
Old school train with wooden windows that open wide enough to pull a frig through. 
All day/night vendors most of whom are young school children age, selling everything from water (frozen stiff bottles) to hot soup walking directly into the private sleeper cars pushing hard for a sale.
Numerous vendors feeling super comfortable sitting down on the bed and lighting up a cig while getting to know us. Cool at first but dreadful after a few hours.
The views from the big wide window openings were heavenly! As we chugged along through the Burmese Landscape I shot away with my iphone. Because we were heading pretty much due North, the sun was setting on one side of the train as the Mandalay moon smiled at it from the East. Both sides of the train breathtaking!
