A little sad to leave Yangon but you know what they say about a rolling stone?
Today we decided to have lunch with Nico at his Euroesc restaurant, the "Union Bar & Grill". Nico is the Brit owner of this fine place and expat buddy of a friend in Indonesia. I was told not to miss this place and glad I didn't. We had amazing fish burgers, tasty pizza & local beer while we discussed our plans with Nico and received some very helpful facts and must see sites. Located next to the Old Strand Hotel it was a perfect way to speak a bit of English while getting in an American meal before heading into the boonies.
Walking to the train station afterwards was a constant dance between dodging (illegal) money changers, who are everywhere vying for a quick interchange & food shop owners convincing us of how excelkent there food is.
As we all know by now I am true to street food and only go inside to eat during the rainy season.
We got to the station with plenty of time so we went for a walk through a neighborhood nearby. A last minute decision had us purchase a roll of TP. Thank god because the 15 hour train ride didn't have much more than a smelly hole in a closet floor as a bathroom and no accessories in sight.
( the only snow I've seen since I left)
The train was super cool! Similar to the one I took last winter from Bangkok to Hua Hin only we stayed in a sleeper car this time.
Unreal experience on this train
